1965 Chevrolet Corvette In Oil
Oil paint on gessoed board, 18X24, 247 hours
I did a drawing of the car on a piece of watercolor paper to establish my values, and to help me really see the subject before i started to paint it. I pretty much worked from the background to foreground on this all the way through.
I think my proportions are okay. I am happy with my palette choices, and i have a full range of values here. I was also happy with the way the background turned out. I originally shot this car in front of a restaurant, and wanted to paint it on a beach in sunny southern California. So i used a beach panorama i took in Santa Monica, and used a 1966 Corvette reference shot i took to see how the car would look without a building behind it. It all came out okay.
My biggest complaint is the time it took. I was wanting to be within two hundred hours, and overshot by a whole week! I just gott’a get faster at this. My other complaint was all the paint i threw away. I cannot seem to mix small enough amounts of paint and waste a lot of it that way. And there are still things i need to shore up in my paintings. Still plenty of room to learn and improve.
Comments and criticisms always welcome!

Maybe the sixties were the best for cars in my country. Such variety, but nothing like the Yanks had . . . :)
