Pliers and Hammer Final
Final Tool Drawing 3
Charcoal on Fabriano Uno watercolor paper, 140 lb., 22X30
From Drawing II class. For our Final we had to come up with a theme and do three to five finished pieces to hang in a group. The theme i had chosen was hand tools. I first introduced the idea for this to my Professor from a sketch posted here earlier called "Pliers and Hammer." With my first two drawings pretty much finished, i started this conflict between a pair of pliers and a hammer.
Spent two class periods on this. What with setting up, clean up, and Professor announcements i ended up with only about four hours of real drawing time. It is difficult to specify a time, as i would do little things to all of the drawings here and there in the final weeks as my Professor would suggest little changes.
The Pliers are an advanced tool, taking the human hand with its opposable thumb to a higher plane. The Pliers definitely has technology on its side. Yet the Hammer is ancient. It has been fashioning other tools since it was just a hard rock. It has been around the block a couple of times. I do not gamble, but i would bet on the Hammer.
