1973 Camaro Z28 Graphite
Graphite pencils on 12X18 Fabriano Artistico, 140 LB Hot Press Watercolor Paper, 30 hours even.

The sheet of paper was 12X18, but i made the drawing smaller so that it would fit into a standard mat opening of 11X14 as presented here.

I think i did a pretty good job with this one. My proportions are close, but it still took me thirty hours to draw this.

Most of the transitions in the value changes came out okay, but i am still not as smooth as i want to be. The pavement looks too sketchy, and i have too many passages that do not look right here. How can values between dark and light just vanish like that when you shoot a photograph of your work?

The original looks better than this, smoother, but i am still responsible for the presentation of the work. Iím getting frustrated that i cannot present my work better than this.

Here is the reference photograph that i used [link]

Very, very well done! I know the grill had to take some time. Your control of shading is superb! I do car art myself, so i know what went into this. Great work! Great talent!

curious, how much time spent over the front grill alone?

It's my guess that it took six hours.
There were a lot of value changes in there. :)

i commented to my girl, that i would take at least 7 hr to make a grill like that, so detailed and sharp like that, with 0.5mm graphite...

guess it was a lucky guess huh?! ehe

did ya see:

?

sure, it was a 3hr work overall , and i did it with no tablet, it was a study of mouse drawing... but still, the same car/spirit as urs.

the critics, are usually people that only talk the talk...
coz its hard to choose being an artist, and walk the walk...

ive checked ur gallery, and you enjoy art, like you enjoyed this drawing, and your "critique" about this being amazing is pure, and simple, yet shows that u got a nice eye(taste)...

art theory is useless, if one is guided by theory alone...

remain with your heart, and what it likes, then ur critique is less contaminated by trends and standards...

I like the composition with the car filling the page at an interesting angle. Your proportions are good as always and you did a fine job on the foreshortening. You did a really good job of capturing the lines and character of the Camero. You have a beautiful range of values here. Along with that great technique you have in the use of value changes and transitions to show the planes and contours of the body. It's a sterling piece of work!

I think is a very good work you don't have to understimate. But if you need an advice maybe this can help: About the sketchy pavement, due the lines are horizontal, you can draw in a diagonal direction using an H pencil. Then apply graphite dust (you can take it from a B pencil), and then apply smooth with the finger or cotton. This way you can apply to combine lights and shades or cover plane wide spaces.
keep working, i hope this can help
