Description

1965 Ford Mustang In Oil
Oil paint on gessoed board, 12X24, about 300 hours

This is my fist shot at a photorealistic painting.

Drew the car onto the board, and that took about ten hours. Sprayed drawing with workable fixative. Then painted all of my value changes in raw umber, obtaining the underpainting that i have posted in my gallery [link] . This took up to 232 hours of drawing and painting.

After all of the raw umber had dried thoroughly, i then spent some 68 hours mixing and glazing very thin layers of oil color over the raw umber to get the painting you see now.

After spending three hundred hours on one painting, i cannot say that this is a method that i will be quick to try again. In some ways it was easy. In other ways it was more difficult. But i was determined to try a car painting with the full glazing technique, and i am glad i stuck with it.

It is dated October of ’09 because i thought i could get it done before November, but it took too long to dry!

Oh I'm so Critiquing this one!
First of all. This is by far my most favorite car! I love everything Mustang/Cobra/Shelby!

The color finish on this painting is incredible! Its so sleek and glossy! I am also enjoying the color itself! You really made it look good! The background color works wonderfully with car color. It brings great natural balance. I enjoy the cleanliness of the chrome/metal parts. The attention to detail on the Mustang Logo and tires is out of this world. Everything just looks perfect and aligned.

It's fascinating to look at this because it looks so much like the real thing! The way you colored the head lights make them seem so real. The shading and the lighting on the car add to a real 3D effect which I am absolutely loving!

The perspective is great. I like how you actually resize everything accurately as you go to look at the rear of the car. There is nice flow throughout the entire work and the eye sees everything without being cornered or overwhelmed!

I could sit here all day and tell you how amazing I think it is that you put so much hard work into this painting and the many wonderful details in it, but I worry that I might bore you!

Really a wonderful work! I enjoy looking at it and would absolutely love to have this car and the skills it took to paint it!
