Description

1951 Studebaker Pickup Acrylic
Acrylic paint glazed over graphite pencils on 12X18 Fabriano Artistico, 140 LB Hot Press Watercolor Paper, 60 hours

The sheet of paper was 12X18, but i made the drawing smaller so that it would fit into a standard mat opening of 11X14 as presented here.

Have entered this piece in :iconpencil-box: 2 contest, as it has two mediums mixed together. [link]

I am guessing 60 hours total on this. Another 30 hours or more were spent floating acrylic washes over graphite patterns i drew just to see how it would work.

This was for :iconblurwing:, it is his truck, drawn from a reference photograph that he sent to me last year. He waited a long time for me to get this done, and unfortunately it did not turn out very well.

As a painting of a truck goes, it is okay. However, the colors do not match the reference photograph. In other words, the painting does not match the colors of the client’s truck. So the craftsmanship is here, but the artistic part, the capturing the essence of the truck, was lost.

This was an attempt to try to mix graphite with acrylic layers. I did not do it very well. Maybe this is why acrylic used as watercolor over graphite is not a common technique. Or maybe it means i just do not know how to do it very well.

I am still learning and growing...but this was a good effort. I am not sure when i will try this method again, but i am glad i at least pushed my comfort zone and gave it a shot.

Here is the reference photograph that i used [link] .
